moonstruck87 | I'm learning Vedic astrology and LOVING it. I have been wondering though if those of you here who are students (or gurus) use sidereal or tropical for your vedic chart?? I transitioned from Western background because I have been told that you can't beat Vedic for it's predictive astrology |

Hello. Thanks for the tip! I actually just received his software as a birthday gift & with that I see the option to use sidereal or tropical. Pretty neat. Which zodiac do you use, missblyss? |
existential | Ernst and his students like Ryan Kurczak use the tropical zodiac. But I believe they use sidereal nakshastra. |
saggysaturn | Sidereel |

farfaraway | Hellos...Vedic Astrology is based on the sidereal system - defining the zodiac based on fixed constellation rather than tropical, which is based on Sun's movement around the Earth. Here's an article that lists down all the differences between Vedic and Western Astrology: http://www.farfaraway.co/blog/vedic-astrology-vs-western |

manderin | I am not an expert. Having said that, here is my take so far: Sidereal. The astrologers mentioned who use the tropical zodiac tend to have something in common- They use a thousand explanations to explain away why their basic interpretations are not working. Listen to their videos and you will see. Very often they will find someone's chart isn't making sense or matching up with their life, so they turn to the Vargas and other tricks to try to explain this away. Don't get me wrong- I believe there is a place for the vargas, especially the D-9 chart. However they are not reliable because your varga chart changes roughly every 4 minutes. So if your time of birth is off by even a few seconds your varga charts will all be different. Guess what- as someone who's worked in various pediatric wards in various hospitals I can tell you that very few people have their correct birth time listed on their birth certificates. Nurses rarely right down the correct birth time. They often wait until after the baby is cleaned up to record it and often they round up or round up the time. For this reason, the vargas are essentially useless. And yet these astrologers who use the topical zodiac tend to be more reliant on them than any of the other astrologers. If you simply use a normal lagna chart and forget about the vargas you will get a very accurate reading even if your birth time is a few minutes off. Another point: KRS doesn't like to call himself a professional astrologer, but he's studied it a lot AND he has interviewed with and gotten many insights from all the famous astrologers- including the ones that use topical or sidereal. After knowing them and having all their insights and information at his fingertips which system does he trust more to choose to use himself?- Sidereal. I'm NOT saying that the astrologers using tropical are not worthy. Many of them are very knowledgeable in their own right and you can get many insights from them, but I don't find their readings to be as precise as the astrologers that use sidereal. And because of the birth time issue be very wary of astrologers that rely heavily on Varga use. |

MoonMystic | I have settled on sidereal after a long struggle to avoid it, as it is more difficult with a rich and involved terminology. Sidereal is older and for anyone seeking a more in depth look at themselves, this may be better. Especially if you lean in the 'reincarnation' way of thinking. In my chart, I see tropical as more superficial. I have some serious facets in sidereal that aren't easy to see without having to really look at 'myself'. Granted I may not learn it as well as others may, I do see much within my chart that explains so much more. Soon I hope to learn the terminology that helps glue the puzzle together! |
anekksadh | Hi moonmystic Further to your post below is taken from my post on another thread, the best book to learn jyotish for a beginner is 'LIGHT ON LIFE' specially if they have been living in the west i had this book with me since many years and it helped me condition my mind to understand vedic philosophy which is integrated in jyotish, i posted this book to a friend of mine in scotland few months back and luckily yesterday i found a link of this book online and downloaded it onto my laptop, copy paste the below link in your browser and download the book, this is the best book written by a foreigner on jyotish, its explained beautifully, written by canadian hart de fouw and american robert svoboda who themselves have spent years in india studying various branches of vedic philosophy names ayurveda/jyotish etc from gurus read this book over a period of time, reach one chapter at a time, come back to the same chapter again after a while, start reading charts with the jagannath hora software which u can download from the link given below and map the chapters to the charts you study Copy paste below link in your browser to download the book https://ia800408.us.archive.org/8/items/LightOnLifeAnIntroductionToTheAstrologyOfIndiaHardDeFouwAndRobertSvoboda/Light%20on%20life%20An%20Introduction%20to%20the%20Astrology%20of%2 0India%20-%20Hard%20de%20Fouw%20and%20Robert%20Svoboda.pdf jagannath hora software- http://www.vedicastrologer.org/jh/ jyotish is the right word, instead of vedic astrology, you will understand why when you read this book, vedic astrology is a term used in the western world but we call it jyotish any doubts pls ask Anekk ------------------ https://www.facebook.com/anek.sadh https://www.facebook.com/pg/AstroNumero27 |
MoonMystic | anekksadh, thank you so much for this helpful information. Sadly I'm limited to non PC but maybe the files will open so I can educate myself on these terms. Edit: It wouldn't open, bad url msg. I'll research jyotish. Maybe my library also has materials. Amazon too, when I'm a bit ahead. |
